Bracha Bar-On, Kedem Sasson, Keren Naftali, Yosef Peretz, Shai Shalom, Bet-ka, Alambika, Sugar Daddy. Not names most people around the world would recognize.
But Israeli fashion buffs know their names. And now, finally, LA fashionistas will too.
According to Ha’aretz and The Jewish Journal, these hip Israeli designers premiered their Spring 2010 collections last week on October 14 during LA Fashion Week along with various Israeli accessory labels and the Department of Textile Design graduates at the Shenkar School in Tel Aviv.
It was the first time Israeli fashion had been shown on an LA Fashion Week runway.
Noa Tishby, an Israeli-born actress, model, singer, and current television producer living in LA hosted the show at Geffen Contemporary at MOCA in downtown Los Angeles and bright and beautiful, high-fashion Terry Poison, an Israeli electro pop group known for their sequined short shorts and neon jackets performed an enthusiastic set at the show and the after party at the Playhouse in Hollywood.
Fashion from Israel has already played a small part in downtown NY (Soho has a Sigal Dekel store and the down-home boutique Rosebud is run by owners who import clothes from designers like Ronen Chen and Kedem Sasson) so it’s about time LA got its fill too.
And apparently, it was quite popular. The Jewish Journal said every seat was filled and guests packed the gallery. Even big-name model Kathy Ireland came to watch the models strut their stuff.
So where was Bar Refaeli? 😉
